Acterra Business Environmental Awards – Sustainable Built Environment Award
Sacred Heart Schools, The Stevens Library
The Acterra Sustainable Built Environment Award rewards a building project that conserves natural resources and promotes the health and well-being of its occupants through innovative sustainable design. Sherwood authored an extensive water reuse plan for Sacred Heart Schools’ Net Zero Water library, which received Living Building Challenge and is Water Petal Certified. Together with the design team Sherwood designed and implemented a holistic site-wide sustainable approach using low impact development techniques, using rain gardens and planters to treat and manage runoff. Pushing the design further Sherwood developed and incorporated systems for water reuse, collecting and treating rainwater from roofs and graywater from sinks before distributing it to site-wide irrigation and building demand.
