The Bayview Opera House is a historic building in Bayview neighborhood of San Francisco. The previous plaza surrounding the Opera House lacked positive pedestrian use and was not designed to draw community members to the space. Sherwood worked with a team of consultants and the San Francisco Arts Commission to design an inviting and functional site. The new plaza provides a respite for pedestrians along the busy corridor and enhances the physical appearance and functionality of the site. Sherwood produced grading, drainage and utility plans for the site surrounding the historic Opera House. Sherwood worked closely with the SFPUC to design the site’s drainage strategy in order to receive a grant to install stormwater treatment planters. The planters were not required but the project wanted to go above and beyond the SFPUC’s guidelines.
