Sherwood Design Engineers worked with Nelson Nygaard and the Metropolitan Transit Commission to analyze costs and benefits of Caltrans relinquishment of a 20 mile stretch of El Camino Real Boulevard between Redwood City and San Jose, California. Sherwood assessed existing conditions to estimate future costs of improving and maintaining the thoroughfare, including road paving, stormwater management, and ADA compliance. Estimating the future costs of assuming the thoroughfare helped local governments decide if the transition was financially feasible under their current operating plan(s).
