Fort Ord Dunes State Park

Sherwood has prepared comprehensive civil engineering design plans for the construction of a new coastside campground at the 2,500 State Park located on the coastal bluff and dune complex on the western edge of Marina.  The project encompasses over 500 acres of visitor user facilities including a 100 space tent campground, a 100 space RV park, and associated comfort stations and visitor center, multi-use trails, ADA beach access ramp, and coastal overlooks.  A new maintenance and staff housing area, a park kiosk and other park amenities.

This is the first State Park campground to be installed by the State in over 40 years.  Sherwood is the civil engineer of record for the entire project and has completed the designs for vehicle and pedestrian circulation, horizontal control, grading, drainage and stormwater management, erosion control, and all new wet utilities for water supply, sanitary sewers, and stormwater management.   The park is set in an extensive and biologically sensitive coastal dune system, which required a low impact design approach to minimize impacts to the several endangered and threatened biotic resources at the site.

Sherwood assisted State Parks to prepare technical documents to support the approval of a State Coastal Development Permit, completion of a CEQA document, and to secure will serve letters from the local water and wastewater district.  Sherwood assisted State Parks obtain encroachment permits from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
