San Francisco Opera & Veterans Memorial

Sherwood Design Engineers was a key consultant working on renovations to the historic Veterans Building that faces San Francisco City Hall. This project included a complete seismic and MEP renovation as well as the addition of a Production and Learning Center for use by the War Memorial Opera House. Site improvements included a new plaza design, which works to blend seamlessly with the historic Memorial Garden. Sherwood was responsible for all site utility upgrades, fine grading and drainage, and adjacent green street proposals along Franklin Street. Thinking holistically about water resources management, Sherwood developed a water reuse system for harvested rainwater as well as shallow groundwater which continually requires dewatering at the existing building. Sherwood’s work included managing stormwater on this protected site in a creative way to meet LEED standards.
